I have always thought that this game should technically be considered a Game Boy Color game, even though it's still part of Generation I and makes rather limited use of the color palettes, because the game was specifically designed and optimized for use with the Game Boy Color system.
You even can't change the color scheme upon startup of the system with the D-pad and buttons, which is essentially the definition for a Game Boy Color game as opposed to a Game Boy game. What do you think? It's a gameboy game because it works in the non-color gameboy.
